A Sharp Stick In Your Shoe
Life is like a sharp stick, stuck in your shoe.
It hides in the corner, and then if you step in a certain way it shifts and stabs the bottom of your foot. It’s uncomfortable and if your lazy you just shake your foot around so the stick shifts out of the way again, somewhere in your shoe. It’s not poking you for the time being, but you know it’ll stab you again. But it’ll stab you later, so for now it’s ok.
So you keep walking on your way, and the stick comes back around, and you shift your foot again.
At some point, the stick gets stuck in your sock and it won’t get unstuck. It’s getting more and more inconvenient to walk, your foot growing a little sore from all the poking.
So you finally decide to make the effort of sitting down, taking off you shoe, shaking it upside down to get the wretched stick out.
When you get back up again and continue walking, your foot finally feels at ease and relaxed again, able to perform its task of stepping and moving forward with much greater ease.
Sometimes in life there are sharp sticks, poking you over and over; but they’re small so you don’t bother making a change because it’s much too small to take to time to fix the problem.
But sometimes the problem is so easily fixed that you wonder why it took you so long to go and just do it, and stop the inconvenience earlier, so you might have enjoyed life a little more.
Because life is for joy, and why not make sure your life has as much of it as possible?
Sit down, take off your shoe, and get that sharp stick out.
You’ll be happier for it.
