Slowly inhaling I knock on the short wooden door. For a while there is no reply and I’m left to sit here uncomfortably.

_ I knew I shouldn’t have come._

The door suddenly flies open and my nostrils are attacked by the scent of vanilla and lavender.

Madam Lana is truly one for the theatrics. She looks me up and down, scrunching her nose in disgust. “Well come in darling. Outside smells awful and your letting it in the house. She dramatically whines around, her fur trimmed robe dragging behind her.

Despite the jagged exterior of the hoe it was a hidden palace on the inside. Tall marble walls dazzled with expensive paintings extended far past the roof on the outside house.

Madam Lana practically throws herself onto a nearby lounge chair, leaving me standing here awkwardly with a surprising lack of chairs in the foyer.

“Let’s skip the pleasantries, shale we? You and I both know were not here for small talk.”

I shift on my feet. “Of course my lady. I need…” I run my hand down my face. _She isn’t gonna like this._ “A favor.”

“Is that so?” She sneers sitting more upright. “You destroyed y entire fortune and now you want _me _to do something for _you_.” She snorts. “Yeah right.”

“What if.” I reach into my pocket pulling out the ring the she had given her daughter just before her wedding. “I can help you find Saralyn.”

She gasps as though she had been shot, all the while swiping the heirloom from my hand. “Where’s. My. Baby.” She stands over me. Even without the eccentric heels she towers over me nearly a foot.

I clear my through nervously. “At the moment I don’t know.” Madam Lana’s eyes fall dark and I’m pretty sure I’m about to die. “That’s why I need your favor. It will help find not only what I’m looking for but also your daughter.”

She folds her arms and I’m hoping that means she wont hit me. “And what is it that your looking for?”

“The man that made Saralyn disappear.”
