When Renné was in high school she was supposed to go to prom with Nate, but before he was able to pick her up Renné’s ex-boyfriend showed up at her house and SA’d her. Because of this her trauma made her black out and block out the whole night so when Nate showed up she had completely forgotten that is was prom and that she had agreed to go with Nate. She still doesn’t remember when the book takes place, but the places that Nate leads her to makes her slowly remember things. Then, when the ex-boyfriend shows up on her doorstep, everything cracks and falls apart.
