POEM STARTER
The sky full of stars seemed dead and cold; a place once so magical now hurt to behold.
Write a rhyming poem that ends with this line.
You Are Just As Important
When you think of a sky full of stars, what do you think of?
Do you think about how small you are?
Do you think about what else is beyond?
Do you think about the person you love?
A place so beautiful and magical is now dead to me.
Because when I gazed at the stars I used to see dreams,
I used to dance under them with my arms around me and my feet floating.
I used to catch fireflies in a jar then sit down and guess constellations.
And the person beside me?
She used to lay the blanket out and fill my young mind with stories,
She used to tell me I could be anything I could’ve ever imagined being,
She told me I was smart,
She told me that my heart was pure and to always wear it.
She said , “god created the stars and the sky, and you are just as important.”
But now, how can I go on without her?
As a child she was my bestfriend, and as a young woman I had forgotten her.
Forgotten to visit,
Forgotten to call,
Till it was too late and she was gone.
When I look at the stars I regret those things, and I miss those moments as a little girl.
It hurts too much to look, because I know if I do, I’ll hear her in my head telling me “god created the stars and the sky, and you are just as important.”
