Humans fear the dark, but what happens for those who seek it...?
Comfort In The Unknown.
Sometimes in life we meet people who don’t follow the social norms as the rest of us. As people many of us are drawn to light, or sources of so like a moth to a bulb inside a lampshade. Many of us are drawn to the bright warm things the light signals to us in our minds. However for some it’s quite the opposite. There’s a level of peace in the darkness. A quiet still comfort that only exists once your senses are muted, and your left with nothing but your thoughts and conscious. In this state many become weary, unsettled, or some even go completely mad when isolated like this inside there minds. For the rare people that coexist mentally with this darkness it’s a state of calmness that cannot be found elsewhere. Someone who seeks out the darkness it seems as if they are seeking out true peace and quiet. A world where your senses can be relaxed and your mind can run free without so many distractions. Humans have relied on senses for all of history to keep ourselves alive as a species but throughout time and evolution some people have developed this love of tuning things out. This has developed over many years with most people just isolating one sense in a way that brings them peace or happiness. For one it maybe the taste of a delicious meal distracting them from every day life for a bit. Some it’s a love of music and hearing the pleasant sounds they’ve become drawn to as an escape. Drowning out the noise of the outside world has become a major part of most lives in some way shape or form in modern society. For some this can be accomplished purely by finding a dark place to make themselves comfortable and regather there thoughts. The use of sensory deprivation tanks has only brought more of this phenomenon to the forefront. While floating in a dark soundproof tank it’s very easy to get lost in your mind. The thoughts begin to race at first, if your accustomed to the dark it begins to relax you quickly however. If the darkness scares you however to long can turn into a nightmare of thoughts entangling your mind. Actively seeking darkness has been known for many throughout history as a show of malevolence or association with an evil force. However in modern society I don’t believe it is that simple when for some seeking out darkness can be there only mental escape from the darkness they find in the brightly lit modern world.
