Try to convey a real sense of surprise with this story. You could describe the competition and the win, but keep the focus on your character and their reactions.

Wait what? I won a writing contest? How?

These are thoughts I had in my head as I looked at an email on my phone. I hadn’t even paid attention to the instructions. I just wrote. How did that happen? I wan a trip to a writing workshop.
