POEM STARTER

Paper boats, the scent of lemons, and tears.

Use these descriptors as inspiration for a poem.

Water

Paper boats float softly upon it,

Dancing merrily in the water.

A push and a shove,

They are swept down the gutter.

The rain beats against them,

Trying to stop their dance.

Little does the rain know,

The boats will never escape the trance.

The scent of lemons inside the tea,

Soaked inside the water,

Like a bird in a tree,

Waiting for slaughter.

A sip out of the cup,

A bang and a staggered stance,

The bird falls and the tea is finished,

Never had a chance.

Tears fall to the floor,

Dripping like water.

A cry pierces the silence,

Fear for a daughter.

Hurting to the touch,

Stabbed by a lance.

Unable to breathe,

Lost in the expanse.
