“Get back here!” A man demanded from behind us, his feet pounding on the floor as he chased us around a swerve in the mountain.
I grabbed my sisters hand tighter as we sprinted away, my calves were burning and my lungs were gasping for air but we didn’t stop. We couldn’t stop, if we stopped we died and the thought of that suddenly made the ache in my calves worth it. I didn’t know how long we could run before he caught us or we escaped, but I knew that we would run until the soles of our feet fused with the rock beneath us. Giving up wasn’t a option when death was on the edge of his seat waiting for his next prey. I seen the end, I seen the dead end we were running into but I didn’t stop, it’s not like I could’ve turned back, right? My sister, noticing we were getting close to the edge of the mountain began to slow down hesitation taking over. However I just pulled her along. We had to make it, no matter what the cost. The fall wasn’t deadly, bone crushing yes but deadly not so much. As long as we landed the right way only a few bones would crack and we could play dead until he left. At the time it seemed like the best plan I could’ve came up with.
“We’re gonna need to jump.” I informed my sister, her breath quickening at my statement.
Her feet stopped for a minute but picked up again as I refused to slow down or stop at any moment.
“That’ll kill us, you’re joking right?” She replied, eyes blown wide open form shock but this wasn’t a joking matter.
“Trust me.” I reassured her, looking into her deep auburn eyes for what seemed like the last time.
I can hear him get closer, he’s right behind us so I grab her hand tightly and hurriedly pull us towards the cliffs edge, I turn to her and nod she slowly nods back a gesture full of fear and trust. Then we jump.
