POEM STARTER
Submitted by Margaret Sok
Rotting flowers can still smell sweet…
Write a poem which centres on this theme.
Who Am I?
Who am I?
Well, I don’t know
Quite how to answer that question
When I haven’t even become
Who I am supposed to be yet.
Who am I?
I am the person in the back
You know nothing about.
That kid who likes to keep to themself
Because no body wanted
To get to know this me
For the longest time
So I learned how to be shy.
Who am I?
I am the person you don’t know
Has super powers.
I can see the finest of details
Hear the most silent of sounds
And know the weirdest of facts
You ever did know.
Maybe you say autism is a disability
But I say it’s my super-ability.
Who am I?
I am the person you always underestimated.
The kid who youd never believed
Could hit a home run
Or outsmart every puzzle, riddle, or rhyme
And find any loophole
No matter the size.
Who am I?
I am the person who draws for survival
Who’s emotions explode through a paper and pencil
And who always has a vision,
An endless stream of creativity and intuition.
Who am I?
I am the person who always got bullied
Who never caught a break
Not at school or at home.
So I learned how to live
In a hostile environment.
I learned how to thrive
How to thicken my skin
And stand up and win.
Who am I?
I am a growing mess of stress and love and joy.
I am a creative soul who loves to employ
The oddest of strategies all throughout life.
I am a person who has a soul that feels timid
But a heart thats brave to the bone.
I am a person who is trying my best
To live life to the fullest
Without any regrets.
