POEM STARTER
Submitted by Robin Marlowe
Write a poem about unseasonable weather. e.g. A warm day in the winter, or snow in the summer.
To Hold.
In the Sahara desert stands a tree.
Despite the heat and dry ground it stands tall and full, a leafy bundle on the horizon for anyone who wants to find their way.
It’s been there for a long time, used by generations to guide them and for scientists to wonder how a perfectly ordinary cypress tree can even survive in such extreme conditions.
If you were to stand underneath it today and admire every vivid leaf and still branch, perhaps you wouldn’t even notice that it gave no shade…
(Inspired by the tree of ténéré, that stood alone in the desert for decades - until someone crashed into it! 💛)
