The Burden of Memory
Write a poem that could have this as its title.
The Burden of Memory
bleeding wrists,
bruised ankles,
burning eyes,
one dark room,
a chair and rope,
a single bright screen,
your voice as the tune,
a silent scream,
i open my eyes and go on with my day,
flashes of you, laughing and crying,
get in my way,
how’d i get home?
was a zoned out route,
a memory lane,
i press play, pause, repeat,
fast worward button the missing key,
stuck in a loop but its never complete,
tattoed on my skin with invisible ink,
pierced my heart,
im at the brink,
im falling apart,
the pain is temporary, then its gone in a blink,
its now the middle of the night,
deafeat takes over,
again ive lost the fight,
so i strap myself in to my favorite chair,
i wrap my wrists and feet with rope,
and stare at the screen, with a blank stare,
i’ll forget you to tomorrow, i swear.
