WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a dialogue scene that opens with a creative insult.

(Without using foul language!)

An Insulting Walk

“Your jokes are so unlaughable, you’d be dead before anyone would laugh at their plainness,” Mina said with a scowl as she walked beside Zane.

Zane smiled at her lame insult. “And you’d be dead before anyone could even recognize you insulting them with your poor _insults_,” he bit back with a grin.

Mina rolled her eyes, walking in front of him.

The two were stuck together on this quest, the quest of finding a sword that could bind the two kingdoms together to stop the growing tensions.

“You know in my kingdom, insults can get you killed,” Zane said, still smiling.

“Well killing me would only worsen the tension between our kingdoms, so sorry to say, you’ll have to discard that wish,” Mina responded.

Silently they walked, following the trail of soft dirt. Contemplation heavy in the air.

“I don’t wish you dead,” Zane said interrupting the silence.

Mina stopped. She looked at Zane, someone she was to believe was her enemy, but she only saw hope and gentleness.

They both wanted peace.

“It seems we agree on something. I do not wish you dead either. I’m sorry for my insults. I’m not used to working with anyone,” Mina said with a small smile.

“Honestly, I’m glad to be working with you. Sometimes a man needs an insult.”

The two laughed as they continued their journey.
