POEM STARTER
Poison.
Write a descriptive poem about something poisonous, and its effect on its target. This could be literal or metaphorical.
A Snake’s Bite
Each snake can bite
Poisonous or not
Some people put up a fight
Others cannot
Some want to retaliate
Some want to surrender
Some call it a stimulate
And it makes some tender
They get weak in the knees
Or weak in the soul
It gives the heart a squeeze
And makes them lose control
It tests what you can take
What you can manage
To see if you’ll break
Or if you’ll use its advantage
It takes out the worst of you
It makes you feel crazy
It gives you a different view
At least it did to me
I thought I was immune
That I could handle anything
Not be popped like a balloon
Or be used like a plaything
Then one bit me
One I thought I could trust
But when she left I was free
Our friendship to rust
I still think of it occasionally
The discare she felt towards me
But it was to happen eventually
Being left out was the key
The key to being free
The key to judge
The ability to be me
Even if I still hold a grudge
So if you’ve been bitten by a snake
Felt the venom through your veins
Learn to embrace the heartache
While your heart still remains
