STORY STARTER

Submitted by A.Brosien

A princess has been waiting in her tower for her Prince Charming to save her. But after 30 years, enough is enough, and she decides she's going to save herself.

Continue the story... (you could take this prompt more metaphorically, and write in any genre that fits the theme!)

Waiting For No One

I have waited years, hidden from the world

I hoped for someone to save me,

Someone that sees beyond the illusion of strength

Strength that I show to those around me

But strength that I have never felt

I wished someone would glimpse the broken heart inside

Inside this fortified tower I built around myself

I wanted arms to hold me, and a shoulder to cry on

But no one came

I was alone, shattered and terrified I would never change

Until I heard a voice, a voice that told me this:

Dry your tears, Princess fair

For you must know this

That though there is no dragon in your lair

There is something amiss

There is a monster here

He that lives in your mind

He steals the happiness there

And twists anything that seems kind

But there is hope

If you cast him out of your heart and soul

Kick him to the curb with a ‘Nope!’

You can walk out free and whole

As simple as can be

And suddenly you are free!

I didn’t know weather to believe the voice

But it was worth a try

And there must be someone

Spreading all these lies inside me

So I walked to the door

And slowly crept through it

Simple as that, and fear just old hat
