POEM STARTER

Submitted by Its_Ady

Write a poem about a bird who was once human.

Even now, it remembers what it was like to have hands, to touch, to hold, and to feel. Now wings beat where arms once moved, but the memories never fade.

What I Once Was

Feathers red,

Beak yellow.

This is how I’ve always been,

In both my lives.

I used to have bright red hair,

Fiery that blew in the wind.

My face yellow.

Freckles everywhere.

Now instead of freckles,

I have dirt.

Permanent dirt that doesn’t come off.

It looked messy.

The other birds think I don’t

Take care of myself.

I do.

I once said those two words

In my human life.

So happy, filled with joy.

I just can’t remember anything else.

My skin got wrinkled.

My hair fell out.

I died inside,

And out.
