“We, Simple Terrors”
Some things are
easier to say
in the dark
for then there are no
true colors, night pulls over us
a blanket, humanity,
one mask taken for the other
we, simple terrors
remove our faces, shuffle them
around—— mental roulette
everything on red, seeing
black pressed onto our
eyes, a half-sleep we’d forgot
by the dawn grasping us by
our ears, pulling us to the wardrobe
shining light on the latest
disguise, _people_ is a loose term
everyone says it, nothing can define
then we speak a whisper
a soft sword swung wide
to even our surprise, we’re alive
a half-dream, flat, so heart
may better climb to mouth
then creak open the door
crawl out into the shadows
and speak lies clad in
torn truths, _to kill is to be _
