WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a dialogue scene that opens with a creative insult.

(Without using foul language!)

Plus One

“Look, I know five annoying people, and you are four of them.” He said coolly.

Mia scoffed, her eyes rolling painfully far into her skull. She probably should have taken a deep breath, but she took a moment to silently curse her brother instead.

And herself.

She never should have agreed to attend his stupid party, but she _definitely_ shouldn’t have agreed to be a plus one for Mr. Hot-and-Unbothered over here.

“And what exactly is that supposed to mean, _Garrett_?” She defensively crossed her arms over her chest, fingernails digging into her flesh in a feeble attempt to keep her frustration from bubbling over.

The Uber could not come soon enough.

He shot her a devilish, dimpled grin and it took everything in her not to sneer back with the sarcasm clawing at her insides.

“It means, _Mia_, that you have enough personalities to keep me company for an eternity.”

“And what makes you think I’d want to spend an eternity with you?” He was teasing her, she knew, and her irritation was practically dripping onto the pavement.

He only chuckled and much to her dismay it sent a barrage of confused little butterflies skittering through her stomach.

“You make me so angry, Garrett. I swear I just want to-”

“To what?” He cut her off, his voice dropped an octave. Her eyes flicked to his instinctively and she really, _really_ wish they hadn’t.

His usually bored and sullen eyes were ablaze- pupils blown out and devouring every inch of her face, from her flushed cheeks to her breathless lips.

Headlights flashed around the corner and screeching tires rang out through the air so thick it could be sliced with a knife.

“Uber’s here.” He whispered, but she could barely hear over the sound of her heart thudding in her ears.
