STORY STARTER

On your 30th birthday, a mysterious figure reveals that you're the heir to an ancient throne in a realm you've never heard of...

Pearls

I open my phone when I get a random call. Harp music plays, and in a blink of an eye, I’m not at my house. You can smell the ocean breeze. The clouds are of different shapes, some purple, others blue.

In an instant, someone teleports in front of me.

“Hello darling, you look beautiful, " this random alien—looking lady said, taking me in. She had blue voluminous hair, white pearl wings, and a form-fitting dress that made her pale skin stand out.

“Oh,” a light turned on in her eyes, “You probably don’t know why you’re here.”

“Huh?” I'm confused.

“It’s your 30th birthday correct?”

“Uh… _yeah_, why?” she spoke flatly, not getting her point.

She laughs, “Once you turn thirty you become an heir to some faraway land.”

“Is this some kind of joke?” I question.

“Are you a Scrooge?” She emphasizes.

“Nope, I just don’t understand _where_ I am, _when_ I am, anything.”

“You signed a paper when you were 20,” She pulls it out and puts it in my face.

“Ahhh..” I nod, realizing my mistake. I added a mental note to not sign anything _ever_ again.

“Did I sign this?” I ask to verify.

“Yes ma’am. Oh and do you want to see yourself?”

“Sure?”

A mirror appears in her hand. What I see is not normal. My white hair is now green and in a fishtail braid, I have huge gold, green, and pink dotted wings, and my eyes are doe eyes. My skin tone is now a pale shade, and I look nothing like before.

“What?” I whisper, feeling my face to check if it’s real.

“Yes honey, this is your new reality.”

I’m still wordless.

“There is nothing to be afraid of, you look beautiful in your new persona.”

“But I didn’t choose this.”

“Did you sign it?” She asks, confident of the answer.

“Yes,” I reply, sinking into a spiral of thoughts.

“Let’s go!” She replies out of the blue.

“Wai—“I’m _too_ late because I’m God knows where.

“Hello again.”

“What’s your name by the way?”

“Oh—really—sorry,” She shakes her head, “It’s Pearls.”

“Like multiple?”

“Yes, people commonly ask me that question. It’s pearls.”

“Got it,” I look around, “Where are we?”

“Your castle.”

I’m following her, and randomly she says, “Tada!” With jazz hands.

The only thing that comes out is a gasp.

My eyes widen, “This is _my_ home?”

“Yeah, you think this is cool? Wait till you see the inside.”

This castle is 4 stories tall, it has gold carvings all along the trim. A gigantic fountain in the middle of the path, and flowers scattered in a couple of areas. The exterior is a tan color with pointy ceilings and a huge walk-out balcony, This castle is fit for a queen—_not_ me.

“The roof is so pretty, very pointy.”

“That’s what you notice?” I Probe.

“How can I pick just one thing?”

“True, how am I supposed to live here?”

“You just do.. Oh and also, you have to do all the cleaning sound here… sorry!” She laughs and then fades away.

“Pearls! Don’t you dare do this to me!”

She comes back, “I was just joking.”

I squint, “Very funny,” and applaud her playfully.

This seemed to good to be true, there is _no_ way this is _mine_.

“The capital of this neighborhood will host a ball to celebrate next week.”

“Okay,” I smile in disbelief.

“I’ll come back tomorrow to give you all the paperwork and details.”

“Thanks, bye Pearls!” I wave.

She waves back then disappears.

Two questions still rang in my head, where am I and how did I get here?
