The evening air carried a faint chill as the young woman stepped out of her office building. The streets of Seoul glowed with the fading warmth of sunset, streaks of pink and orange painted across the sky. She breathed it in slowly, trying to savor the beauty of the moment, though unease still pressed against her chest.
Her stomach twisted again. Stronger this time. A warning.
She paused at the familiar crosswalk she had walked across countless evenings before. The city lights flickered to life around her, cars rumbling by, and for a fleeting second, she smiled at the glow of the horizon.
It’s silly, she thought. Why does tonight feel different?
The signal turned green. She stepped forward.
Then—blinding headlights.
A deafening horn.
The screech of tires.
Time slowed. The world tilted, the colors of sunset blurring into white. The last thing she felt was the warmth of twilight on her skin before everything went black.
