VISUAL PROMPT

Write a narrative from the perspecitve of one of these characters, with a twist that would be unexpected given the scene.
The Mistress
I know it’s one of them; their over-friendly, obsessively interested nature gives off an aura of insecurity and over defensiveness all at the same time. But which one? Amelia keeps fiddling with her soft blond curls. I stare harder at the constant twirling. It’s like a never ending coil, tightening and tightening.
‘Are you ok darling?’ I jump as Janet grips my shoulder. ‘You look like you’re worlds away. Don’t want to join in today?’ She jokes. Little does she know, this is in fact the last place I want to be. I don’t think it’s Janet, too well manicured with her perfect Bob, golden glow and point precision mascara. She used to be quite attractive, before she had her face frozen.
I keep going back to Amelia. The twirling is insesent, and I swear she’s purposely avoiding my gaze.
‘Well would you want to have dinner with us old crones when you’ve got that gorgeous husband at home?’ Felicity says, flexing her toned arms towards me. Could it be Felicity? She’s always commenting, always asking when James is home. ‘I’d never leave the house if he was mine…’
Too obvious. It’s got to be Amelia.
‘Lucy,’ my name is called again, this time almost in a whisper. ‘Can I have a word, privately?’
God it’s Amelia, she’s going to tell me everything. Her eyes widen as she looks to the restroom door. I go to stand quietly. As I lift from my chair, an almighty crash sounds around me. The table cloth lifts and blood red seeps into the white around me. The opportunity is ruined, she’s got away with it one more time.
