Marina Zandopoulos is a Greek-American girl who was raised as only child in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Her mother died during childbirth, and she would have experienced a lonely childhood were it not for the boy moving in to her preschool. They quickly become best friends and are inseparable from childhood on up to when Jason departs for his two-year mission and she for college.

Jason quickly realizes that he is secretly in love with his best friend, but is unsure of how to tell her how he feels, especially as she dates other guys through high school until she eventually finds a boyfriend of her own.

It’s not until after Jason returns from his mission when he visits Marina during her Veterinary Medicine degree when he finally gains the courage to tell her, but he exposes her boyfriend’s infidelity as a means of protecting her. This reveal nearly costs Jason his life before he even has a chance to tell Marina about his feelings.

It’s then that Marina realizes that love was waiting for her the whole time…
