Parking Lot Friend

The sunset casts ominous shadows among the sunflowers.

A lone mouse looks ahead.

Will the end be in weeks, minutes, or hours?

Across the land and endless sky, an adventure filled with dread.

Get to the field, and you’ll find peace and safety.

Among the flowers and stocks, away from longing eyes.

A way mouse goes on a trail that’s hasty.

One that has taken so many lives.

Trapped by fear and the unknown ahead.

Regardless of the decision chosen,

The mouse knows it is dead.

Alone and afraid, it stands frozen.

Unknown perils lie between the mouse and the destination.

Across to the field, it must go.

Each step taken with quicksilver and hesitation.

A victory the snake and hawk cannot know.
