POEM STARTER
Write a poem about a person experiencing growing pains.
Your interpretation can be literal or metaphorical.
Literal Growing Pains
My legs hurt, my arms hurt
My back hurts, I fear.
What you are experiencing
Are growing pains, my dear.
But it seem like forever
That I want to sleep.
Well that is when you grow
When your sleep is real deep.
And it seems like my clothes
Do not fit anymore.
Yes, I know that your growing
Makes my pocketbook sore
I know that you say
I eat everything in sight.
So much so that we shop
For groceries each night.
Now you’re just fooling
Every day, I don’t grow
Ah, but you do
You just eat, sleep, and grow.
So you’re not fooling
Saying last night I grew.
If I was to guess
I’d say an inch or two.
So the pains that I feel
Are just about growing?
That is what I’d say
It is what I am knowing.
Then I’ll just be glad
That you’re here with me.
You are our child
You bring us such glee.
So you just keep growing
We’ll all deal with your pains
And as you grow
You will realize the gains.
Thank you for the comfort
Through my growing pains
Thank you for being there
Through all of my pains.
