POEM STARTER

Compose a poem that starts with an idiom.

Idioms are common, sometimes metaphorical sayings such as ‘it’s raining cats and dogs’, and ‘love at first sight’. Which idiom will you use to set the theme for your poem?

With A Heart

With a heavy heart,

I walked away

From you,

From it all,

For this

I had taken the fall.

With a broken heart,

My chest burned,

Almost as if

There were sharp glass shards

Inside me,

Stabbing me,

Deeper into my flesh

By the second.

With a heart

I felt

All these feelings…

_All of them_,

No matter how

Painful.

With a longing heart,

I yearned for you

And I missed your touch.

Without a heart

Is how I now stand,

Broken, numb,

And empty

Without you.
