STORY STARTER
Despite their friends’ advice, a character vehemently believes they can ‘fix’ their love interest...
The Meeting
Tied with zip ties to a chair, Juliette glared at her childhood friends as they readied their presentation as to why she should dump her boyfriend, Cody.
The tv was hooked to a laptop that had the presentation on it with Aubree in charge. Cash and Raelyn were in charge of presenting their case.
The first slide was aptly titled “Dump Him NOW, Juliette”.
For the next 30 minutes, Juliette heard them out as it was their right as her other halves to protest against her bad decisions in life.
“He has no job, he doesn’t even pay for your dates. You are in graduate school, the sugar mommy life isn’t in your budget.” Cash used a feather duster as his pointer stick. It wasn’t cleaned so each move he made dust would fly around.
“Cody literally is a dick. I hate him. He tried to draw using my limited edition lipstick.” Raelyn wiped a non existent tear in condolence of her precious lipstick.
The presentation was pretty much like this. Everything Juliette already knew but would disregard because they are not the ones dating her Cody.
“In conclusion.” Cash said making a face to Aubree to join them. She clicked to the last slide and all 3 said in unison.
“BREAK UP WITH HIM!”
If Juliette was a teacher she would give them an A plus and applaud but her hostage situation wasn’t going to allow her that so instead she whistled in appreciation for all their effort in this Cody intervention. Never again would she visit this house with scissors and readying some self defense moves.
“I’m losing circulation here, guys set me free.” Juliette complained and everyone immediately scrambled to get something to cut her with.
During the planning of this intervention, it seems setting Juliette free was last on their list of priorities as she was being sawed off using a dull butter knife when scissors were nowhere to be found.
Once free, Juliette massaged her arms and glared at her best friends. She isn’t capable of hating them as she knows they are just trying to make her see reason but they don’t know Cody. They just know the version of him during visits.
“Well thank you for that awful presentation. I’ll make sure to never come here unarmed.”
“You can’t fix him, Juliette. He’s not some project to finish up.” Cash said, already feeling like her stubborness will win this time again.
“What if I can? What if I can be the positive change he needs in his life?” Juliette crossed her arms.
Aubree crossed her arms too, facing her. “He’s a deadbeat. He won’t change and will drag you down with him.”
“He’s not dragging me down. I love him.”
“But does he love you back?” Raelyn countered. “Or does he love a free meal? Or a free space to crash on when rent is nowhere to be found?”
“Why are you guys so against my happiness?” Juliette cried out tears spilling.
Cash initiated the hug first then Raelyn and Aubree joined in. The spontaneous group hug was a better form of restraint than the zip ties earlier.
“We’re not against you, Juliette. Never.” Cash wiped a tear from her eyes.
“Its that we cant sit by while you ruin your life.” Aubree patted her back.
“Who knows what he’ll do next if he can so casuallt steal my limited edition-“ Raelyn started then all three glared at her to stop.
“If I get him a job will you guys accept him?” Julietted suddenly suggested hopeful.
The 3 shook their heads.
That didn’t stop Juliette from getting Cody a job at the canteen wherein he ate the food as snacks and took too long breaks. Some people never really change.
