WRITING OBSTACLE

Choose a lyric from a song and let it inspire you to write a fantasy story.

It can be any lyric you like, but the story should still fit the fantasy genre so consider which lyrics might work best for this.

Wait for me

Wait for me, I’m coming

Wait, I’m coming with you

Wait for me, I’m coming too

I’m coming too

- Wait for me (Hadestown)

How far will you descend into the pit, little brother, before you realize that only silence lay waiting?

You feared silence since you were a babe in the bone crib, gyrating to it with your pudgy fingers outstretched and conducting some hidden ensemble. Your essence was hard to contain even then, dealing me many a blow as I stood guard over you. I was lucky, the bone crib did its part. Mother, not so much.

It is not your fault, little brother. You were just a babe excited to see this world, ignorant to the violence and pain that permeates its veins. You grabbed hold of those veins and your essence thundered through them like a tempest. Mother was just a tree in your storm; you must blame the weakness of the roots, not the strength of your winds.

Guilt is a powerful feeling, I know. I’ve been victim to it many times myself, but my essence is weak so it has never manifested a form. You may be powerful, but you are just a child - a babe in the crib - who cries to the nightingale’s song. A sweet boy.

I will follow you into the pit as you look for our mother’s salvation, the piece of soul fragmented in the explosion of your birth. I may be weak but I’m still your elder brother - I will gather powerful allies and friends to aid me in what I lack. Wait for me, little brother, I’m coming for you. Wait for me. We shall do this together.
