POEM STARTER

Write a poem about taking a gamble.

Your interpretation can include the classic ideas associated with gambling, or something more metaphorical.

The Chips Are Set

Throw the dice.

Watch the deck.

Put a pound in the claw machine and go for the neck.

Is it right?

Is it wrong?

How much do I put on the line?

I’m sure it’s going to be fine!

I take the step, I roll the dice, I watch the deck, I crack my neck and my knuckles as I prepare for what comes next.

The chips are set.

It’s like roulette.

I ask him out and see what comes next.

He looks at me, eyes set on mine, there’s doubt inside.

I’m sure it’ll be fine.

He bites his lip in contemplation, he’s thinking too hard for a simple question.

“No.”

My heart breaks, I took a gamble and it was a mistake.

For the moment my heart will have to wait.
