POEM STARTER
Submitted by Robin Marlowe
Write a poem about unseasonable weather. e.g. A warm day in the winter, or snow in the summer.
Strange Weather
The sky forgot its cue today,
Woke in spring but dressed in gray.
Blossoms bloomed, then shivered back—
Snowfall traced the tulip’s track.
The birds returned, confused and thin,
Windswept from a world they’d been.
Their songs fell flat on frozen air,
Unsure what brought them early there.
The sun arrives, then disappears,
As if unsure which time of year
To burn, or bow, or simply hide—
The seasons blur, their paths collide.
We wear our coats, then curse the heat,
Step through puddles, scorched by sleet.
The sky forgets what once was true—
And maybe we do, too.
The sky forgot its cue today,
Woke in spring but dressed in gray.
Blossoms bloomed, then shivered back—
Snowfall traced the tulip’s track.
The birds returned, confused and thin,
Windswept from a world they’d been.
Their songs fell flat on frozen air,
Unsure what brought them early there.
The sun arrives, then disappears,
As if unsure which time of year
To burn, or bow, or simply hide—
The seasons blur, their paths collide.
We wear our coats, then curse the heat,
Step through puddles, scorched by sleet.
The sky forgets what once was true—
And maybe we do, too.
