POEM STARTER

Write a poem exploring mistakes and redemption.

Humans are fallible, and often the best stories come from our errors. What might you discuss in this poem?

Mistakes Maketh The Man

Nobody is perfect, especially not me.

Mistakes I’ve made get to live in my head rent free.

Things that I’ve done wrong at work, or have done less than well.

Choosing the wrong partner or missed chances with a girl.

Missteps as a parent or forgot what my wife said,

Forgetting almost instantly something that I just read.

Misplays in a board game, or a missed penalty.

Or a hundred other things that will always haunt me.

But the thing with my mistakes is, I never make them twice.

A chance for me to learn and grow, the memory is my price.

Despite tall poppy syndrome I’ve climbed the corporate ladder,

I’ve ended up with a great wife and I’m so glad I’ve had her,

Standing by my side as we raise two great girls,

I remember more than I forget, things mostly ring a bell.

The games I play are just for fun so imperfection’s fine.

I’m happy where I am in life so I’ll claim the mistakes as mine.
