STORY STARTER

The writer stared at the post-it on the wall. She knew it would change her life for the far, far worse…
Sinister Secrets
Hailey’s heart dropped into her stomach as she read the post-it on her desk. Who had put it there? What did it mean? “I know your secret” it said in what looked like either crimson nail polish or blood.
And she had something to hide. Trouble. Big trouble. For the last year, she had been having an affair with Brian, one of her coworkers. How did this mystery person find out? Hopefully they didn’t already tell her husband. To make matters worse, she just found out she was pregnant, and her husband and she hadn’t fucked in weeks.
“I guess the fucking cat was coming out of the bag sooner or later,”she grumbled, but she hoped not like this.
Ugh…she had to tell Brian. Maybe he would know the mystery stalker’s identity. She looked around the office for him but couldn’t find him anywhere. She asked around and found out he hadn’t called in. It wasn’t like him to no-show! He was meticulously on time every day ready to clock in and typically the last person to leave the office. Typically this was how they got away with their affair. She would sneak out with him after their shift and go to his place.
She decided to investigate and feigned vomiting so she could go home early. However, she instead went to Brian’s house. He lived around the corner from her, but when she rang the doorbell, he didn’t appear to be home. She opened his door with the key he had given her, and indeed found nobody there. How peculiar, she thought. She then drove home, her heart racing. Something wasn’t right here. She opened the door and came face to face with Brian…tied to a chair, blood streaming from his head and extremities, barely alive but fighting. She gasped audibly, and before she knew it, a hand grabbed her and covered her mouth.
“So…were you going to tell me this prick and you have been whoring around?” Her husband growled.
“I’m so sorry…she whimpered. Please, if there is any good in you, you will let him go,”she pled with tears in her eyes.”
“As if, he shouted, and in case you were wondering, Brian wrote the note…with my help,” he said, pointing to Brian’s bleeding hand.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have business to finish,” he scowled, pulling out a gun. In one swift motion, he pulled the trigger on Brian and let him out of his misery.
“Noooo!”She shouted, but it was too late. And she had a sneaking suspicion she was next.
To be continued…
