POEM STARTER

'The key they'd given me still fit the lock, but the house no longer felt like home'

Write a poem which closes with this line.

Porcelain heart

TW: ABUSE

I recall the days you sent me into turmoil

Where you screamed in my face

And bullied me

Until I couldn’t do it anymore

The days were so dark

When you were in them

Which is unfortunate, as I _loved you_

But you didn’t _love_ me

The misty clouds lurking above my head

Shaking hands whenever you were in my presence

Or when you got your fist and threatened me

“If you talk to any other man, I will _kill_ you”

And I thought you were joking

Until you _tried to end me_

You ended me emotionally - but not physically

I screamed with terror and ran away

I called the police and I stayed in a special place

To get away from the man I once loved

I once adored

I once liked

Times have changed and you’re out

Out of my house and out of my life

And I still recall the court case

Where I gained justice and hope

Confidence and a sense of _living _

Putting the past behind me

And stepping into the future

The key they’d given me still fit the lock, but the house no longer felt like home
