The tattoo of a rose on your body

Lingers in my mind after the night we spent together.

The ink deep within your skin

Like the love I feel for you.

It’s thorns piercing your flesh with pain you no longer feel

And it’s stem wrapped around you

Like you have me wrapped around your finger.

You have me where you want me

If only I could always be with you like that damn rose.

Its petals falling like I did for you.

It’s a permanent scar that will not heal

And me a temporary bandage for your wounds that will.

So when you let me go, like a petal on the breeze,

Let me be as ink on your skin

And the fire in your sun

The death in your sin

And the chords that make you cry

When you’re hurt and can’t breathe

I’ll be the flower to stop and smell

And the bandaid for the bullet holes.

At your funeral I’ll write your obituary

But I’ll be the one that killed you.

Because you couldn’t keep me

And you didn’t care about my beauty

But darling nothing is as beautiful as you

And the despair of your tattoos.
