POEM STARTER

Create a poem about a shape you see in the clouds.
The Floating Yacht
I looked up today, a sunbeam on my face,
And saw in the wisps a ridiculous trace.
It wasn’t a heart, or a dragon, or sheep—
It was a yacht that the clouds meant to keep.
A giant white sailboat, too flashy, too grand,
The kind that you'd buy with the cash from my hand
(If I had been foolish enough to give you a dime).
It looked like your ego, floating through time.
It drifted so slowly, ignoring the breeze,
Just like you ignored all my cleverest tease.
It seemed to say, "Look at me, aren't I so rich?"
While the wind whispered, "Honey, that shape is a snitch."
It sailed past the sun, then began to disperse,
Just like your affections, getting progressively worse.
The hull turned to vapor, the mast thinned to smoke,
A beautiful object that suddenly broke.
I watched it all fade, not a tear in my eye.
A yacht in the heavens is just passing by.
It was gorgeous and fleeting, completely untrue.
Just like the idea that I ever needed you.
Now it’s just blue sky. And darling, I'm glad.
The best view of all is the view that I had
When the big, silly shape that reminded me of you
Finally vanished, leaving nothing but blue.
