Dense

I stalked through the woods the brush so dense it was suffocating. I was too deep into enemy territory I let myself stray to far. I flinched at every noise every branch snapping, any rustling in the bushes. I needed to return time was waisting. That’s when I see him, my comrade bloody and brused leaning against a tree. I waste no time immediately rushing over to him completely forgetting to scope my surroundings like my training taught me. As I dropped to my knees infront of him I rushed to stop his bleeding ignoring his pleas for me to run and leave him there.

I watched as she tended to his wounds. I had my scope trained on her, I could kill her here if I wished she’d left her and her comrade here in the open how idiotic. “This is war” I thought, not a careless game to gamble your life on. I decided against killing her here this endless bloodshed isn’t what I joined the military for in the first place , I was exhausted from it all. I leapt down from the tree and as I did she whipped around and pointed her weapon to me almost in an instant. I truly admired her reflex even if she is easily distracted by her emotions.

“It’s okay I’m not here to hurt you, I just want to help.” I spoke calmly not wanting to escalate the situation. “ my name is callum” I spoke.

“I do not care for your name” she snarled. Yikes I thought this might be harder than I thought. As I tried to reassure her she never moved her gun away from me. “Drop your weapons. All of them” she spoke sharply. “ if I do what guarante do I have you won’t kill me immediately” I said.

“You have my word” she spoke back plainly.

“Your word means nothing here darling” I said matter of factly. She furrowed her brows at the pet name. “Okay I will discard my weapons aswell.” As if in sync we both tossed our weapons off to the side out of reach. As I moved closer to her she was watching my every move. “ your wound packing could use some work” I said jokingly, however no laugh came. She watched intensely as I fixed her work carefully stopping the bleeding.

After I finished she helped him up, awkward silence filled the air. Before I stood up I spoke “your going to need my help getting out of here darling” “like hell I do why should I trust your going to get us out of here and not lead us into a trap” she snarled again. “Your fiesty I like it” I smile she however recoils at my comment. “I’ve helped your friend here please trust me to get you both out” I spoke genuinely.

I was certainly I intrigued when I first met him but this offer to guide us out seems too much. To many questions are plaugeing me, what are his intentions? Why is he helping me? Do I listen? Do I follow? Everything is telling me to not trust him but here in this jungle I have no choice.

“Okay” I said. “Great” he said his smile almost uncannily wide. We both started treading through the jungle, after almost a day we barely made any progress the jungle was so dense it was hard to move swiftly so we decided to camp in a secluded area. I lay my comrad down to rest as I started the fire and callum went off for food. As the night settled it was just me and callum he stared at me for a moment “ can I ask your name” “no” I spoke curtly. “Come onnn even after I saved both of your asses” he whined. “Okay but that’s all I’m telling you do not ask anymore.” “It’s calypso” I said as I turned away blushing a bit. “I am unsure of how to judge his character but looks wise he’s quite attractive” I thought. “Yikes im shallow” I whispered under my breath. “ what was that gorgeous” he spoke not looking away from me once.
