River Flowing
“Lizzy!” My mom calls. My town, Holeburow live in a cave, and no one can go outside. But we have no water. Only a gallon and 2 cups left. My mom calls me for a supper of dry rice. We only drink it 4 times a week, and bathe in it 5 times a year. I am a only child, with my father died since last month. We got to have a extra sip of water that week, a rare specialty. When I head out I see a bunch of people crowding around the exit, surrounded by guards. They tell us about the situation outside and how there’s no water within miles, yet we’re in a rainforest. It’s raining, so guards are blocking the exit. Before I can think I’m running out the tunnel, dodging guards. The rain hits my face, but keep running. I hear commotion as I duck under a rock and freeze. I see soldiers running past me. When it’s safe I slowly get out of the rock I was wedged in. And I hear water. Not the rain, but a consistent flow. I get up to see a river, and a waterfall. “Wow.” I say under my breath. I see a cave behind and I get behind it. I pick some berries from it and pack up. I stay the night and leave it in the morning, I wasn’t safe until I was far away. In about 2 days I reached a village, I live here now. We have plenty of water grow a flowing river.
