POEM STARTER

Awakening

Write a poem about an awakening - it could be literal or metaphorical.

Pride Catches Up To Ya’

My fingers tremble and shake as I feel the liquid run,

Down and down my side it trickles — ego shot by poisoned gun.

Pride catches up to ya’ it always will, it must.

Til you’re shot down by it’s thousands if bullets, trust.

Embaressment takes you with it— no if, ands, or buts.

Embaressment is torture, burns like salt in cuts.

These share something cruel, something I cannot shake.

I am not evil, nor good— rather poisoned by prides bitter ache.

What does this mean for me? What will it mean for you?

To be honest my dear friend, I haven’t the slightest clue.

But down and down it trickles— my ego shot and done.

Pride will fire endless bullets— forever on the run.

Hi!! If you read this I hope you enjoyed my short poem and I would like to share a bit about me. I am currently an 8th grader in GA, who is very passionate about writing and learning how to become better for myself, not just for my school. Writing has always been an exciting journey for me so if you have anything that could help me become a better writer, i’d really appreciate it. Thank you!!

Love, Cassadee ♥️
