WRITING OBSTACLE
Submitted by Frankie Famighetti
Create a conversation that takes place within a human body.
It can be between cells, organs, or anything real or imagined within the body.
Heart & Brain
“Let them go… they don’t even want to stay,” Brain said, solemnly.
“No, no… not yet. They can’t leave yet,” Heart said, drowning in exhaustion.
“Why not?”
“Because if I let them go I’ll have no one! No. One. They’ve been my friend for so, SO long. I can fix everything. Trust me!”
Brain sighed, defeated.
“I trusted you. I, I mean I also trusted them… and look how that turned out. You’re just hurting yourself, Heart, you really are. You can’t fix something that beyond repair,” Brain explained, quietly.
“How could you say that,” Heart whispered sadly, voice trembling, “how can you possibly pretend that it’s fine?”
“I’m not saying this is okay-“
“It’s not fine!” Heart cried out, exasperated.
Brain swallowed down a lump of despair.
“I can’t do this anymore, brain. How can you not care?”
“Of course I care! You didn’t see me at my worst, trying to muffle your crying fits and your panic attacks. You didn’t see me holding on for a sanity that just out of my reach. You don’t get to say I don’t care - you don’t get to play the victim. I’ve lost everything I’ve valued most - marks, solutions, friends, family… for YOU. All of this, because you couldn’t accept the fact that they’re gone and they are NOT. COMING. BACK,” Brain shouted, shakily. A silence engulfed them.
Heart tried to speak, but couldn’t find the words. After a few awkward seconds, Heart finally spoke.
“I’m sorry.”
“For me or for you?”
