VISUAL PROMPT

Write a story or poem that could be titled 'My City on Fire'.

My City On Fire

Lightning strikes but never twice,

But once is equally unnice.

Enough to give the starting spark,

To kindling in the form of bark.

Like a virus, watch it spread.

Birds and bees and bugs all dead.

Smoke approaches — start to choke.

Gliding like the reaper’s cloak.

Save the kids and women first,

Stick around to face the worst.

Grab the photos and the pets,

See how far away we get.

Come back later when it’s calm,

Bow our head and sing our Psalm.

Scour ashes, all for nought,

Pray that we do not get caught.

Use the proceeds to buy more,

From the man not at a store.

Sell the daughter’s bunny rabbit.

The things we do to feed a habit.
