POEM STARTER

Write a poem where the first line of each stanza uses internal rhyme.

Internal rhyme is where words within the same line, or in the middle of different lines, rhyme with each other (not the last word of each line rhyming). e.g. 'I let you see a side of me that isn't seen often'.

Nighttime Plight

A bad dream — you scream out to me,

I come running in a flash.

Shadows crawl across walls and you see,

Them spreading like a rash.

I took your head into my nook,

To calm you from your fears.

We share a look, recite a book,

I distract you from your tears.

A silly game of made up names,

Giggles fill my ears.

Now tame again my little dame,

Your laughs I love to hear.

I hold you tight throughout the night,

I’ll never let you go.

If you fright I’ll make things right,

Because I love you so.

One day you’ll say to go away,

I know that all too well.

But today we’ll play and I will pray,

You’ll stay my little girl.
