Arson To My Purity
From your matchstick, my life once began
In one moment or many
But you drop it at my scraping shoes and I am engulfed
In flame not the same as it once was
But lit by you nonetheless
I was once a mourning dove
Singing the sweet song of dawn
With your dancing fire, elegant and bright
Now I mourn as a hummingbird
Flapping my wings rapidly to escape
From your raging fire, threatening and intense
I'm not sure what it is I miss
The days where flames were safe to touch
The days I flourished in the not-knowing
The days where all was light without the searing heat
The spotlight forever shines on me, fire licking at my heels and smoke curling into my lungs
As I mourn the child I used to be
