Create an origin story for a common saying, such as 'break the ice' or 'once in a blue moon'.
Your story should explain how this expression came to be, and why it means what it does.
Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milk
I spilled some milk today at work and I didn’t cry about it because I remember my mum telling me about the origins of the phrase.
A milkmaid was sad, her lover was away at war and she was alone on the farm tending to the cows. When she accidentally knocked over a bucket of milk, crying away because it was just one little accident too many and then she heard him clearing his throat.
“Oh, Annie don’t cry over spilled milk.” And she was happy as can be and that’s why to this day we know never to cry over spilled milk because you just don’t know what’s round the corner.
