STORY STARTER

Write a poem that includes this line:

'The mask is slipping'.

That Mask

How long do you think you can keep it going?

That mask is slipping,

Slowly but surely.

Those lies hidden by darkness are going to be revealed.

Those insecurities that you think no one else has?

That mask is slipping,

And you’ll see the lies you’ve been feeding yourself,

The ones eating you alive.

How many more sleepless nights?

Thinking of how your life will change,

Dreaming of the impossible,

It’s a drug, and you never want to leave it.

But you have to.

For your family.

For your friends.

For those who love you and can’t bear to see you hate yourself,

To see you kill yourself slowly.

And it’s hard.

But that mask is slipping.

It’s slipping; and the truth?

You want it to.

Need it to.

That mask, who you were, it’s slipping.

Don’t let it hold on.
