POEM STARTER

Submitted by em_andherbooks

Write a poem that describes the longing of a reader who falls hopelessly in love with a fictional character.

Why Aren’t You Mine

The sunrise

Occurs every day

She awaits it

Desperately trying to capture it

So she can hold it forever

She tries everything

And lives in sorrow

Awaiting for the sunrise tomorrow

She tries everything but enjoying the day

She thinks of his face

She sees him in the clouds

Always acknowledging his grace

But at this pace

There won’t be another man she’ll take

She says

“It seems it should be me and him”

Although I know that’s not true

For you he stuck between pages

Even if she waits ages and ages

He won’t leave those pages

He’s stuck in the ink

No matter what she might think

She carries the book by her side

Her eyes glued to every letter

“No one could be better”

She says, not caring how she seems

Despite how she dreams

She misses what’s above her

Someone who doesn’t live in words

Though in my heart love beams

She won’t even look

She is blinded by her book

Maybe one day

She’ll look up and see

And enjoy the day

Maybe one day

She’ll choose me
