POEM STARTER
Awakening
Write a poem about an awakening - it could be literal or metaphorical.
Intoxicating
Inhale.
The distant sounds of screaming rang heavy on her ears as she felt her skin being ripped to shreds.
Exhale.
She could feel every step they took, hear every crunch of leaves, smell every scent drifting on the breeze. The power she felt...it was invigorating.
Inhale.
Every bone was braking and reforming as her skin bubbled, the smell of burnt flesh reminding her vaguely of grilled lamb. Strangely, it only empowered her.
Exhale.
She arched her back and let out an ear-piercing scream, barely acknowledging the sound of sirens and locking of doors. Wings protruded out her back, producing small holes in the back of her shirt as she straightened.
Inhale.
She ruffled her wings as the wind healed her newly formed body. How utterly intoxicating.
Exhale.
She slowly opened her eyes, basking in the now red tinted world. She licked her lips, mouth watering with longing for just a taste.
Inhale.
Her self-control was wavering as she smelled the air, deliciously full of human stench. She moaned in pleasure at the thought.
Exhale.
A small figure walked across the street from her. A little boy no older than 7. She smirked. The younger the better. She got into her stance.
Inhale.
She took off into the sky before the boy could even scream and landed quickly in front of him, snatching him up and yanking him into the trees.
Exhale.
The boy whimpered as she staggered towards him, drunk on the temptation.
Inhale.
How utterly intoxicating.
