Woman in the lake
I stood in my kitchen facing the lake, the weather caused a rather slow start to my day. It was cloudy with little to no sun to been seen. The water was still, not a ripple in sight. My eyes felt heavy, I hadn’t had my morning coffee yet. The jug had finally finished boiling and I made myself a nice hot cup of coffee. “ah”, with each sip I felt the life coming back to me. I wrapped my blanket around myself again, and made my way outside. I used to love this house, all the kids playing in the water, wether that be fishing, boating, swimming all the memories my siblings and I made as kids here will forever be in my heart but this house doesn’t feel the same without any of them. The house is empty, the walls feel lifeless. The water is still untouched and no longer feels welcoming. Looking down the warf i’m warmed by the memories of my childhood and jumping off with my friends. It longer has that welcoming arua. i feel standoffish, the water is warning. The clouds starting slowly surrounding the water. The hair on the back of my neck stand up and I start backing away from the water and back inside. This house always had a weird feeling around it but i’ve never felt scared something’s different now. I caught a glimpse of something it the corner of my eyes coming out from lake but it’s getting pretty foggy out there so I might just be seeing things. I run inside and locked the door behind me, I closed the curtains and ran into my kitchen. My phones lying on the bench, I pick it up and start dialing for my boyfriend. Suddenly there’s a knock at the door. My heart drops. I stand frozen phone in hand and I wait, a few secound go by untill the next knock. taking a deep breath I try and gather the courage to call out “who is it!” I say sounding more confident than I felt. The silence was deafening. then a loud thud came from just outside my front door. a few minutes go by no more knocks but I’m very confused. I head towards my front door where all the commotion was just a secound ago and hesitantly open the door. My eyes instantly drop to the body laying in front of my door. I didn’t need to look at the face to know who it was, the jacket and the hair. It was Emmet, my boyfriend. I look around frantically trying to see who might of done this but the fog is heavy and the tears are starting to form. I barely make out a woman in full black off the warf into the water before everything went black and all I felt was the floor.
