My God, I have you back sweetheart

It is a bright sunny afternoon. Every once in a while a couple of cars pass by the square park. Under sunlight, car shadows move forward as if fish are swimming through the tree shades cast on the roadway. Usually the park becomes lively after the work hours. Seniors would come for a walk, youngs would sit on the grass with dogs moving around, and a bunch of neighborhood kids would play and run with happy yells and screams. But right at this moment, the sound from the cars passing by suggests how quiet the park is now. Still a few hours away from the most vibrant moment of the day, a group of teenagers walk into the park, breaking the tranquility ahead of time.

One of them, Mark says, “It feels awesome skipping the classes. I just love the day outside the school!” Jose fully agrees, “yeah, absolutely! I just made the right choice and would like to do it with you guys again next time.” “Of course, I told you before. Your first time today didn’t let you down right?” says Mark. The other boys also chat with each other like they are used to such feats they pulled off all the time. Nobody is in the park except them, and they embrace the entire space like they just got back to their own house. They take deep breadth as they walk and stretch their bodies for the maximum relaxation. At a glance of the side bench while they enter deeper into the walkway, Jose saw a black little pouch there. “What is that? Looks like a wallet.” Jose says with suspicion. Mark is also surprised but his eyes come up with a glint, “what?!” “Oh it is a wallet! A lot of cash bro!” Jose gets so excited. Mark says, “Yo bro, your first time with us and you find a pile of cash? That’s unreal, I’ve never seen anything like this!” The other boys stopped chatting after hearing them speak out loud, and came towards them in no time. They got cheered up immediately just like they won a big jackpot. Many of them tried to take the wallet from Jose’s hands, saying “don’t take it for yourself Jose. Let’s spend the money before anyone finds out!” Jose blocked their hands and tried to hold down the flooding excitement, “Hey hey slow down bros. There is not just cash in here. Look, the owner’s ID and a selfie. Looks like his daughter. We should return it.” All of a sudden the others’ faces fall down like a shut door, “What are you talking about? We ain’t return it, so much money and enough for all of us to buy something good. Don’t do stupid thing Jose, or we ain’t gonna bring you out next time.” Mark followed, “He is right, Jose. No one would find out we got the wallet. We’ve never seen so much money. You can keep a bigger share since you found it first. We will split up the rest. Let it go bro.” Facing pressure from all the others, Jose is silent and struggles show up on his face. He doesn’t know what to do, but still let the boys take away part of the cash. He didn’t give them away but he was not able to stop all their hands either. The others disappeared quickly from the park sight, some going to the toy store and some going to the supermarket, while Jose is still sitting there with the wallet.

Almost half an hour later, Jose is still sitting there waiting for the owner to come back. But the sun sets down quickly and the day is getting dimmer and dimmer. He stands up, then decides to bring the wallet with him and go back home. He passed around a street corner and saw one man who appears to be very frustrated with a bottle of liquor in his hand. This man looks so deeply drunk, his eyes point ahead aimlessly and his face has no expression at all like collapsed by something really bad. As Jose walks by the man, the wallet in his hand sweeps right through the man’s eyesight. The man’s eyes start to move, attached to Jose’s walk pace. “Anna.. Oh my god my wallet..” Jose heard the soft sound and stopped, “Is this your wallet sir? I found it in the Oak Park.” “Yes, it’s my wallet. Oh my good lord, I thought I would never find it back.” Jose says, “What’s your name sir? Do you remember what’s inside the wallet?” The man says “I’m Robert, I have the ID in my wallet if you can still see it” He continues to say, “Did you see a picture inside? That’s me with my daughter, and the only thing I have with her. She is no longer in this world, it hit me so hard when I lost it.” Jose says “I’m sorry sir. Here is your wallet, and the picture with your daughter. A lot of cash has been taken by my schoolmates, I couldn’t stop them and I’m sorry about that.” The man looks like a different person and very cheerful, saying “No kid, you saved my day. Thank you so so much that I can get my sweetheart back. I only want my picture back, she means everything to me. Please keep all the cash because I want to thank you for that.” Robert and Jose both smiled, with sunset casting warm golden light onto their faces. At that moment, they look like father and son, and the world looks so peaceful as the sky curtain falls down.
