The Dreadful Silence
Write a poem that could have this as its title or main theme.
My Dreadful Silence
I awake to another day,
No noise just my dreadful silence
Another sun climbs the sky,
Blue above, heavy with unshed storms.
Another night spent restless,
Tracing memories I can’t quite mourn.
In silence, I sit with the weight—
Of chapters closed, but never erased.
Some I wish had lingered longer,
Real or imagined, too tangled to face.
I shove the wanting down,
That pull to feel your body near.
To lose myself in your warmth,
Though I know it ends in fear.
Thoughts drift, uninvited,
Filling every corner of my day.
How does it always come to this?
Wanting, waiting, walking away.
To some, we were forbidden—
A secret never meant to bloom.
But my heart stopped asking questions
The moment it made space for you.
I wasn’t thinking of right or wrong,
Only of how your hands felt—
In my hair, on my face,
Every touch making my walls melt.
I ache for the way you kissed me,
Soft, yet saying everything.
In your silence, I felt your care—
A truth louder than anything.
Now, I sit here screaming,
But no sound ever leaves me.
Only my dreadful silence…
And the memories of what you used to be.
