No Need
_This one is a flop but I finished it so might as well post, not every writing is good!_❤️
“No need, I saw the whole thing.”
“Ok, so you already know that It’s been pushed back a week?” He leaned against the doorframe as he adjusted his glasses and ran his hands through his dark hair.
“Yup, and I’ll get those emails, and flyers up to let the school know.”
“Thanks Ella; you’re the best.” His smile reached his eyes before his brain scattered once more.
I had been planning prom for the past 4 months at least. While this setback might annoy others, it was a blessing for me to make sure everything was perfect. Hearing it from Vale helped too.
Reaching my desk, I started planning the best way for the news to come out with minimal negative feelings. Me and Vale had been friends for years, ever since middle school. Over that time I had developed a huge crush on him, and recently, he had started acting like he liked me too. The only problem was that we were going to prom with different people. At least we got to plan it together.
_*One week later*_
It was prom night, the night I got to see my meticulous planning pay off. I started getting ready as soon as I woke up. While I didn’t really care what my date thought of me (it was a random guy from Biology), i wanted to look good for Vale. Getting up, I had breakfast, went on a walk, took a shower, and did my nails. They were a crimson red color; one that would match the accents in my dress. My cousin had agreed to help me with my makeup and hair. She was 10 years older than me and had her prom ages ago. She was also a billion times better at it than I was. After I was done with my nails, I had a light lunch and checked to make sure I hadn’t missed any emails about tonight. I took a quick break to read. I was currently reading the Odyssey and was at the part in the Underworld. I stopped after 4 chapters and waited for my cousin to get here. Once she arrived we got straight to work. An hour and a half later my face looked the best it’s ever been. We moved onto my dark, straight, unappealing hair. 45 minutes later, it was pinned back in and elegant, loose bun, and curled, with curls falling around my face. She had brought over 3 pairs of shoes that I could choose from and I chose a pair of tall, black heels that had swirls of red, dotted with red stones. After that, we talked for a bit, catching up on her work, my school, and I told her all about Vale.
“He’s going to drop dead tonight after he sees you!” She reassured me.
“I hope so.” I said with a shaky laugh.
After we caught up, we slipped on my dress. It was a smoky black color. The top of the dress was in a corset style with red glitter seemingly sprinkled on it. The skirt was fitted was swirls of red and sparkle, and the bottom appeared to be dipped lightly on a crimson red. With the updo and makeup, I looked like a dark queen.
“You’re gorgeous.” She breathed.
“All because of you,” I smiled at her, “you’re the best.”
30 minutes later, my date arrived.
Safe to say he didn’t breath for a minute or two.
He also looked very good, fitted black suit with a dark red tie.
As soon as we got there, I was congratulated by so many people on how great the night was. While I couldn’t take credit for the corsages and kisses, I certainly deserved a pat on the back for the rest. I immediately started to scan to room for Vale. Not finding him, I found my friends and had an amazing night. About halfway through the night, I started to get dizzy. Heading to the halls to get a drink of water and some air, I rounded a corner and found Vale.
Except he was with another girl.
Except his arms were around her.
Except his lips were pressed to hers.
I was frozen there for a second and just as I had the sense to leave, he spotted me.
“I’m so sorry to interrupt,” I lied, “I was just getting some air.”
“Wait, Ella!”
Opening the doors again I headed back into the fray, trying to loose Vale, trying to loose the cracking feeling in my heart.
As I ran I tried to process what I had seen.
_Him, wrapped around another girl. That’s all there is to it._
Realizing what had happened, I couldn’t believe I thought he liked me. Obviously I misread all of the looks he had given me. All of the words. All of the accidental touches.
Suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulder.
“Ella.” Vale breathed, “you look incredible.”
I stayed silent. He didn’t deserve to know it was all for him.
“Please let me explain.” He begged.
Masking my feeling, I emotionlessly told him, “No need, I saw the whole thing.”
And before he could reply or try to stop me, I left.
