POEM STARTER

Submitted by Margaret Sok

“You’ve come back, but I no longer need you.”

Write a poem or short story including this line.

Return.

(This probably sucks a bit more than I want it to but it’s chilling B) )

You’ve come back, but I no longer need you. No longer need your warmth, your comfort. You were never the thorn in my side but you were the rose which gave it. If I could’ve not been so curious, and let you be. Maybe it would not have been covered over with my flesh and stuck there. A single reminder of my loss and gain of you.

I have tore at your petals relentless amounts of times, but you still plague me when you grow back in another form, another flower. You continue to prick me even as you’ve left, even as you’ve come back. I cannot fathom why. But you are still the rose that left its thorn in my side.

You have come back, but I no longer need you. Your pity, your sadness for me. Will be looked at with nothing but disdain. I once appreciated your concern but now I realize it is nothing but pity. I once thought it was innocent kindness, but you are as cruel as a the human you are.

An animal in a more acceptable form, seen more mature and evolved. You are still an animal though, still cruel. You’re too cruel for words, you still continue to prick me.

My rose. You are still, the thorn in my side.
