WRITING OBSTACLE
Connection. Picture. Island.

Behind The Photo
You can never tell the connection you have with someone until years later.
As part of out wedding preparations, me and nick carried photo albums of us as children. We’d spent the whole day, teasing each other for being so cute as kids over each picture.
“Awww look at this one.” Nick pulled up a picture of me in a suit at my James Bond themed birthday party. Growing up I always wanted to be like my older brothers so naturally their obsession with the spy infected me. “If you want you could be the one wearing the suit and I’ll wear the dress. It’ll be so fun-“
I threw a pillow at him from the couch. “That wedding dress is an Etienne original straight from France. No way I’m letting you see nor wear it.”
Nick laughed. “Doesn’t matter anyways since I’ll be the taking it off.” He winked, trying to look sexy.
I simply replied with a picture of him as a kid face a mess with make sucking on what I’m pretty sure to be lipstick. He looked horrified and pocketed the treasure of a picture.
“My mother left out her make up bag okay?” He tried explaining and it made me burst out laughing.
The wedding was less than 1 weeks away and still we were committing every last second of the day to making sure its perfect. This childhood photo album remembrance project was another add on as we saw it in a reel and wanted it for our wedding. It felt like a perfect add on to the program. 2 totally different kids, growing up and ending up together.
Flicking through an album, I saw a familiar place.
“Hey, you didn’t tell me you went to the Island of Enderun when you were a kid.” I pointed to a pic of him sun burned smiling widely in front of the iconic sign.
“Yeah, it was a family vacation thing.” Nick scooted over to get closer, squinting at the picture. “Hey, that kid at the back looks like you.”
“Cause it is me.” I say grinning. I’d never forget my trip to the Island of Enderun as that day was filled with so much fun, I’ve always itched to go back. Everything about it was unforgettable down to the orange corduroy overalls I wore with a white cap as seen behind Nick.
“No way.” Nick shook his head. “We’re meant to be but that coincidence is too much. Plus that kid at the back was a boy, I remember playing shoot against him-“
“-And we both won but had prizes handed to us that we didn’t want so we switched.” I say remembering it clearly.
“You’re bowl cut?” Nick was shocked, his mouth being open.
I rolled my eyes. “Ugh, yes don’t remind me. Quick find my pictures of me at the amusement park, there’s gotta be one with you behind too.”
When we showed the pictures at the wedding it was so heartwarming that so many people cried and Nick even prepared a little surprise of a picture of me edited with a bowl cut. I didn’t know whether to laugh or choke him but then his group of groomsmen came out in orange overalls performing with him the Island of Enderun theme song.
At least life with Nick wouldn’t be boring, thats for sure.
